Oh! Is triggerfish, so should fight or fright!

In my previous blog, I just mentioned about how much I “miss” the Trigger Fish. Haha…… Right now, I regreted to say so because the Triggerfish “miss” me as well. And it was no joke when they “miss” you……….. Hahaaaaaa……… What are Triggerfish and their behavior? You may read it in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triggerfish

Normally, the 1st impressions towards triggerfish were: “It is an ugly fish”! Hahaaaa……. Yes, initially, I felt they were ugly as well. But right now, I felt they were beautiful. Huh! Are you sure???? You siao ar???? They were trying to attack you and you still said they were beautiful??? Hahahaa…. Yes, maybe I am crazy.

As a diver, it is not the 1st time to hear about triggerfish attacking divers. It is very common so when you see a triggerfish, you must always stay alert. I remembered in my very very 1st dive (5 years back), one of my divemate had an attacked by a triggerfish. The triggerfish swim very fast and bang onto his mask. And due to the strong impact, his nose bleed…… but of course he was still ok after that. How about that stupid triggerfish??? Didn’t it feel painful after the bang? Hahahaaa……. Not to worry, triggerfish belong to leatherjacket families. So when you heard “leather” that means they have very thick skins lor………

I had heard a lot of stories about triggerfish, but never encounter an attack because they were always a distance from me. But this round it was so near to me…… and we were like 大眼瞪小眼. It starred at me and I starred at it. Normally, I love to take photos on fishes that close to me but of course not triggerfish. “No mood”…...... Because I am thinking should I fight or should fright?

The answer is neither I fight nor I fright! I chose to defend! I remember a skill which a Divemaster (a dive guide) had taught us during my Redang trip. He told us to bring up our fins to protect ourselves. (That means use your leg to block the fish). So I do as what I had been told and it works. After a few seconds of大眼瞪小眼, the fish swam away…… and I was like “whew……..” Then I swam quickly to my buddy and continue our underwater journey.

After that dive, we got up to the boat. Then I proudly tell the instructor that how I defend myself from triggerfish attacked. And he told me: “This skill is not always effective.” When I heard that I was liked: “HUH?” “WHAT?”………………

~~~~~~ 1st Dive ~~~~~~
Crown of thorns --> Poison don't touch.
I did not take much underwater photos during this Dive trip because I didn't really feel well. Per dive is normally about 40mins to 50 mins (depend on depth) but I decided to decend after a 30 mins dive. When we start to decend, I don't know why I couldn't decend no matter how much air I try to blow out. Then Cherly came and help me decend...... but after about 30mins, suddenly I felt my body become weaker and weaker. My stomach don't feel well and my whole body felt strenghtless and felt almost wanted to faint. So I quick signal Cherly about it and she bring me to ascend. I felt very giddy when I ascend.....
I guess I know the reason, because I did not have enough sleep in the previous night. I hated the travelling distance from Singapore to P. Dayang. I always couldn't sleep during the journey. The other reason was because I am too stressed out at work the few days before my my trip...... So in future, too stress or too tired. Don't dive!!!
~~~~~~ 2nd Dive ~~~~~~

I skipped my 2nd dive as I am too tired so no diving and photos section for me. I took a nap in the room.

~~~~~~ 3rd Dive ~~~~~~
Oh! After a good nap, I am able to dive again!
LionFish. It is a BIG one.
Moral Eel.
Cherly make me to take this photos; she press me down to take this pic..... hehe.... actually I quite worry it will swim up and bite me..... :p (Actually, inorder to take good photos in underwater, we must swim very close to the fishes or objects. I am still trying to pickup this skill.)
Did you see 2 Barracuda at the left handside.
(Double click to enlarge)
Wow..... a school of big fishes, bumphead parrotfish, but too bad the visibility is not good.
It is not common to see a school of bumphead parrotfish in a dive site. According to the instructor, they are here to hide from current.
Another Instructor - Cherly.
They are secondary friends. Like me and Eileen.
Corals are the houses of many fishes........
Acropora Hyacinthus - A kind of hard coral.
Stinging Anemone - a kind of soft coral.
Echinopora lamellosa - a kind of hard coral.
This fish is very cute. It's name is Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse.
When it is swimming, it had a momentum of forwards and backwards....... forwards and then backwards again. So it looks like it is dancing....... haha..... Love this fish, like me living happily. (According to book, this fish own its cleaning saloon / established a cleaning station. It swim with jerky motion to attract clients. If you want to understand more about them read this website. http://animal-world.com/encyclo/marine/wrasses/CleanerWrasse.php)
